Bria Skonberg achieves "Swing Award"

On Monday, June 22nd, 2015 JALC hosted Swing!, the second annual young professional summer cocktail party.  Swing! honors the next generation of jazz artists and our own Bria Skonberg is being recognized for her fantastic work alongside other artists Melissa Aldana and Ulysses Owens. An evening of fun with cocktails, live jazz performances and awards was had at Lincoln Center, NY.

Diego Figueiredo Releases "Broken Bossa"

Jazz artist gives Champlin Park students unique lesson

Professional trumpeter and vocalist Bria Skonberg is making a name for herself in the world of jazz. She performed Saturday night at the North Hennepin Jazz Festival and gave a unique music lesson earlier in the day to Champlin Park students. Click here to see it!

Cyrille Aimee Alexis ColeCyrille Aimée and Alexis Cole were finalists in the first Sarah Vaughan Vocal Competition held this past Sunday at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center and sponsored by WBGO-Jazz 88.  900 vocalists applied of which five finalists were selected for the performance and contest judged by Dee Dee Bridgewater, Jon Hendricks, Michael Bourne of WBGO, and Larry Rosen of GRP Records.  Cyrille Aimée was the winner!!!  Read the review in the New Jersey Star Ledger
Chuchito

 Chuchito Valdes has done it again.  The masterful pianist has been nominated for two more Latin Grammys.  This year he is nominated once again for Best Latin Jazz album, as well as for Best Latin Folk album along with charango player Eddy Navia.  Audio samples of "Live at Chicago" can be heard here, and audio samples of Chuchito and Eddy Navia's album "Piano & Charango can be heard here.
Alexis Cole "I Carry Your
                                  Heart"
Alexis Cole's seventh album just released in September on Motema Music and titled "I Carry Your Heart".  The inspiration for the album is a five volume release of all the music written by legendary baritone sax player Pepper Adams.  This is the first ever recording of Pepper Adams music set to lyrics.  Lyrics were written by poet Barry Wallenstein.  The recording session included Jeremy Kahn on piano, Pat LaBarbera and Eric Alexander on saxophones.  More info on the complete set of releases here at Motema Music

Julien Labro

Julien Labro, master accordionist from the Hot Club of Detroit, and classical guitar master Jason Vieaux, performed live on WGBH's "Drive Time Live"(audio) in anticipation of their performance this past weekend at the University of Vermont and in Boston.  Read the rave review in The Boston Musical Intelligencer.  Samples of their record together on Azica Records, "The Music of Astor Piazzolla" can be heard here.
Chicago Jazz
                                  Orchestra with Jeff Lindberg Jeff Lindberg’s Chicago Jazz Orchestra (CJO) is excited and honored to be chosen to perform at the 35th Annual Kennedy Center Honors Gala on December 2, in Washington, D.C. This performance marks the 24th straight year that the CJO has been chosen for this singular honor. 

This year’s honorees include:  Buddy Guy, Dustin Hoffman,  David Letterman,  Natalia Makarova, and  Led Zeppelin.  President and Mrs. Obama will receive the honorees and members of the Artists Committee who nominated them, along with the Kennedy Center Trustees, at the White House prior to the Gala performance.
 
The ceremony concludes with a dinner dance at which the CJO is the featured entertainment.  The featured singer with the CJO this evening will be Cyrille AiméeThe CJO and  Cyrille Aimée have performed together in four concerts in Chicago.  They recently recorded an album together to be released some time in 2013.

 
Hot Club of Detroit's Junction

Hot Club of Detroit's brand new recording "Junction" on Mack Ave Records (August 2012) received rave reviews in Dan Bilawsky's review in "All About Jazz".  The album has spent over two months on the JazzWeek Charts and peeked at #12.  Here are three mp3 samples from off the album.
